Belgian helpline is live!

The Belgian National Awareness Centre Clicksafe.be has today launched its safer internet helpline. Esafety specialists of various professional backgrounds are offering fast and direct advice on cyber-bullying, grooming, data protection and other eSafety issues. The service addresses especially youngsters, but also parents and teachers are asked to get in touch in case of online issues.

„People who have trouble on the internet can contact us via four different channels“, says Childfocus spokesman Dirk Depover. There is the e-mail address clickhelp@childfocus.org, an online form, the phone number 02 / 475 44 00 and the number 0470 / 44 44 00 that answers to text messages. „Our services are offered anonymously of course“, adds Depover.

All questions are answered with the utmost care by schooled experts who together with the caller try to find a solution. Possible issues arising could be: „A picture of me I don’t like has turned up on the internet! What can I do?“ or: „My child is bullied via text messages! How shall we react?“ Kids are encouraged to save clicksafe.be among their favourites and install an e-button that will go live soon and directly sends them to the service.

The launch of the new helpline will be accompanied by an on- and offline media campaign addressing children, teachers and parents alike. Over the summer, around 100,000 stickers, 10,000 posters and 20,000 bookmarks will be disseminated in Belgium.
